PRINCE2® (Projects IN Controlled Environments) is one of the most widely used and recognised project management methods in the world. As a best practice, it has been revised and developed several times over the last 30 years and is now available in the latest version as PRINCE2® 6th Edition. Here, the individual adaptation of PRINCE2® to the respective project environment and the specifics of the respective company or organisation has now been increasingly elaborated. The cooperation between PRINCE2® and agile methods is also addressed, especially when it comes to product delivery.
Otherwise, PRINCE2® 6th Edition differs only marginally from the previous version. Therefore, participants who already have a Foundation certification according to the PRINCE2® 5th Edition can also do the Practitioner according to the 6th Edition without any problems. The main changes are in the underlying book and the exams.
Successfully Managing Projects with PRINCE2® has restructured the management products in Appendix A. Whereas in the 5th Edition the management products were listed alphabetically, in the 6th Edition they are now arranged thematically according to baseline management products, records and reports.
The most obvious changes are in the audits. Whereas in the 5th Edition there were 75 questions (including 5 test questions) in the Foundation and 80 questions in the Practitioner, in the 6th Edition there are only 60 questions in the Foundation and 68 in the Practitioner. The current Practitioner exam also does without complex multiple choice questions such as sequence questions, multi-answer questions and assertion-reasoning questions.
The PRINCE2 process model is a guide for who should do what, when and with which result in order to conduct the project successfully.
The 40 activities are described in 7 processes and are performed at 3 management levels.
Besides the chronological sequence, the individual process activities can also be used as a helpful checklist.
