Project managers have known it for a while: PRINCE2® 6th Edition is being replaced by the new, revised version 7. The iTSM Group explains the new challenges and offers its customers in-house or online training, including certification.
Version 7 of PRINCE2®, the world's most dominant management platform, sets completely new standards. Although it builds on the previous version, it has a whole series of significant changes and enhancements.
What is different compared to PRINCE2® 6th Edition
One of the most important changes compared to the previous version is the increased integration of people as a resource. They are assigned a much greater role. But the basic principle has also changed. Whereas previously a distinction was often made between agile management methods and the classic "waterfall principle", the new version combines all approaches to move a project forward. The entire language has also been adapted to the current market. It has been significantly simplified and the focus of PRINCE2® 7 is on being able to support all types of projects - whether agile, hybrid or classic.
Another aspect is sustainability, which has been integrated into project performance. The new version also includes a digital and data management approach.
Effects on the work of project managers
The innovations in PRINCE2® 7 have a concrete impact on the work of project managers. They need to familiarize themselves with the new tasks, elements and processes and adapt their working methods to the new tool. Especially for:
- the management of stakeholder relationships
- the management of the team
- the management of sustainability
- the management of digital technologies and data
Changes to the certifications
AXELOS and PeopleCert® - as the rights holders of PRINCE2® - will discontinue the certifications for the 6th Edition of the project management methodology on June 30, 2024 and make them available in German for the new PRINCE2® 7 from mid-March 2024. If you have purchased a voucher for the PRINCE2® 6th Edition certification, you must have taken the exam by December 31, 2024, even if your voucher indicates a later validity date. PeopleCert® will no longer offer exams for the older version from 2025.
From spring 2024, certifications will be based on the new PRINCE2® 7.
