With ITIL® (Version 5), PeopleCert® presents a fundamentally modernized version of the established framework for service and product management. The new edition responds to the profound changes in the digital landscape—in particular, the increasing importance of AI, automation, and digital experience—and shifts the focus from pure service management to digital product and service management (DPSM).
The individual certifications are being released in a specific order—not all of the new ITIL® (Version 5) certifications are available yet. The first to be released is ITIL® Foundation (Version 5), for which certification in English will be available from mid-February. The advanced courses will be released gradually.
ITIL® (Version 5) provides guidance for the entire organization and facilitates collaboration across roles, teams, and levels.
The focus is clearly on AI: ITIL® (Version 5) is designed to help make informed decisions in AI-supported environments and confidently manage complex technological changes.
Digital experience management is considered a core competency for making value creation more visible and user-centric.
Proven models from ITIL® 4—such as the Service Value System or the guiding principles—will be retained and further developed.
The latest version, ITIL® 5, continues to include the Foundation and several advanced modules. As with ITIL® 4, the training structure is divided into three streams: ITIL® Practice Manager (PM), ITIL® Managing Professional (MP), and ITIL® Strategic Leader (SL).
Each stream concludes with the ITIL® Transformation module, which only needs to be completed once if you want to complete multiple streams. Once you have completed all three streams, you will receive the ITIL® Master certification.
A new addition is ITIL® AI Governance, which is dedicated to the guidelines, rules, and controls for responsible AI use.
A modern, AI-native approach, integration of products and services, and a stronger focus on digital experiences.
Organization-wide guidelines, better collaboration, digital value creation, and continuous improvement.
The framework considers AI as an integral part of processes, decisions, and governance.
Yes. The Service Value System, guiding principles, and other components remain unchanged.
As with ITIL® 4, there are Foundation, Practice Manager, Managing Professional, Strategic Leader, and Master certifications. A new addition is certification in the field of AI governance.
PeopleCert® limits the validity of certifications to three years, after which they must be renewed.
Yes, the paths will be offered in parallel for at least twelve months. An official end date for ITIL® 4 has not yet been announced.
