In our three-day ServiceNow® Software Asset Management (SAM) Professional Fundamentals training course, our ServiceNow®-certified instructors will teach you how to set up, configure, and use Software Asset Management within ServiceNow® IT Asset Management.

Upon completion of the course, you can take the exam for your ServiceNow® Certified Implementation Specialist for Software Asset Management (CIS-SAM) certification online via the ServiceNow® learning platform—we will provide you with an exam voucher to take the exam. Once you pass the exam, you will receive your official ServiceNow® certificate there, which also serves as the foundation for further ServiceNow® certifications.

Introduction to Software Asset Management

Fundamentals of Software Asset Management (SAM) in ServiceNow®. This guide explains the supporting process architecture, the roles involved, and the plug-ins, as well as the core features of the SAM product. It also outlines recommended best practices and sets up the technical SAM environment.

Reliable data

The focus is on data relevant to SAM. Topics covered include entitlement and installation data, import options, software discovery, and normalization. Hands-on exercises demonstrate how to properly integrate and analyze data and maintain it reliably using Content Services.

License Management in Practice

This module explains software products, models, license metrics, entitlements, and assignments. It demonstrates how to manage licenses correctly and how to use software reconciliation to transparently display license status, over-licensing, and under-licensing.

Operative Integration

Here, SAM is integrated into operational processes. Key areas include license agreements, software costs, procurement, catalogs, and software requests. In addition, license changes are calculated, and measures to address license violations (remediation) are implemented.

Strategic alignment

This module covers the lifecycle of software models—from implementation and optimization to decommissioning. The goal is to optimize installations, ensure compliance, avoid unnecessary costs, and decommission software in a structured manner.

Reporting and analytics

Finally, the analysis and reporting features are presented. The module explains the differences between traditional reports and performance analytics and showcases various SAM dashboards for monitoring compliance, costs, usage, and strategic decision-making.
